BMW R100S Scrambler

This is a 1976 BMW R100s that has been refurbished in a street scrambler style as you can see in the pictures. The bike was first registered on the 9th October 1976, being supplied by Gus Kuhn Motors ltd on the Clapham Road, London (still have the original plate with the Gus Kuhn logo on it, that goes with the bike). Being a 1976 model (the 119th R100s made), it has the higher final drive ratio, giving effortless 100mph cruising all day long (on the autobahn of course), making this a very desirable  model. The bike is much lighter (by 48kg) with its modifications, it performs very well (0-60 in around 4 seconds) and is surprisingly nimble (twisty roads and dirt tracks are fun), the tyres amaze with their grip and feel, the bike is all day long comfortable too. The exhaust note is best described a rorty and the bike has shed loads of character.

The refurbishment included:
  • New brake, clutch and throttle cables
  • New upswept lightweight silencers (with removable baffles)
  • Wrapped stainless steel exhaust down pipes
  • New heavy duty clutch
  • Shortened R65 subframe  (to give the bike the correct stance)
  • New rocker shafts and valve clearances set correctly
  • New push rod oil seals
  • Engine oil and filter change
  • New gearbox oil and final drive oil.
  • New spark plugs
  • New alloy mudguards
  • Wheels coated satin black
  • New Continental TCK80 tyres and inner tubes (very sticky and high speed rated)
  • New scrambler type handle bars fitted with period grips
  • One off custom made comfort seat with alloy base.
  • Headlamp Stone guard
  • High quality Bullet type period indicators and rear light
  • Carbs re built with new needles, jets and diaphragms
  • Extended wiring loom
  • Newly powder coated engine protection bars (not fitted yet) but will come with the bike.
The petrol tank has been stripped to bare metal (by hand), etch primed, powder coated in super chrome finish, graphics applied and then several coats of clear lacquer applied and oven baked to give a durable finish.
